The Mississippi Crime Laboratory (MCL) was established in 1956 by the Mississippi Legislature as a Division of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. Although created in 1956, the laboratory was not funded for operation until 1966 when the current system had its inauguration. The Mississippi Crime Laboratory System today consists of a full service forensic laboratory system serving approximately 3 million citizens. The Mississippi crime Laboratory System is comprised of the Main Laboratory in the capitol city of Jackson, with branch laboratories in Batesville (north), Meridian (east central), and on the Gulf Coast (south). The MCL system provides full forensic laboratory services on criminal cases to all local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies throughout Mississippi. |
